Welcome to the World Little One

So this birth story should have been boring. While there's no "my water broke at this time and we got to the hospital at this time" it was certainly not boring!

We had a set c section date for December 11, 2013. That was 39 weeks to the day. Emory was born at 39 weeks and 6 days, Gavin was born at 38 weeks to the day. The section was set for 0730 which meant we had to be at the hospital at 0530. So the alarms were set for 4am...oh the fun! Surprisingly we both were able to fall asleep and get enough to get by until later that day.

So here's the breakdown:

0520: Arrive at St Thomas Midtown (Baptist hospital is now Catholic)

Last belly picture.

0540ish: Get to preop room and the process begins. IV placed, beautiful hospital gown on, jewelry off.

not the most flattering but you get the idea

0732: Roll into OR (this is when Chase gets nervous because he gets left outside the door until they are ready to begin the actual surgery)
0745: Discover that baby is breech and NICU has to be called in. Again, this is where Chase gets nervous about something being wrong

0754: IT'S A GIRL!!!! 7 pounds 8 ounces 19.5 inches (our smallest most petite baby by almost a whole pound!) She was born feet first and nearly gave me a heart attack because she took her time to cry but other than that all was well. APGAR was 8 and 9.
0838: out of the OR and rolling to recovery...this is where things get fuzzy...must have been the tiredness. HA!

Chase was in charge of sending out texts and decided to play with a few people. He sent out a text that said "After and intense bout in the OR (baby was breech) we have a Precious 7lb 8oz, 19.5 in baby :)" Hehe! So mean but it was funny!

Riley Kate Martin...Welcome to the world!

Proud Daddy

Foot print time

And bathtime...

He was so curious and she was so proud and excited. We waited until she came up to the hospital after school to tell her if it was a boy or girl.

First Family picture...I might be a little puffy but at least I'm not green this time!

Nita and Riley

Aunt Katie and Riley

Papa and his Riley girl

no words needed...

G and Riley

Dude and Riley

Miss Amanda...the only person allowed to babysit for a while...other than family!

Gavin required a bit of entertaining when he was visiting...the hospital was slightly boring for him...can't really blame him!

Riley ready to go home with the build a bear sissy and brother made for her!

We spent the next 3 nights at the hospital with my mom at home with the kiddos. Visitors came and went and we got a little sleep...more than we are getting now! :)

Saturday was our going home day and while we were ready to go home and "sleep" in our bed we were slightly timid about the idea of being a family of FIVE!! Crazy!

We had to adjust the straps to the smallest setting...didn't even know they could do that!

Emory made a sign for Riley.

She is one proud big sister!!
I'm sure there will be many posts to come but this should hold you over for a little while! :)
