40 pounds to be exact!
Sadly the couple that owns the orchard is considering selling it and retiring...Jess and I have decided that we could run an orchard! Better start reading up on it! Ha!
Our goal was to make applesauce and apple butter, apple pie filling, and various other baked goods. Some might say that buying your applesauce and apple butter is the easier way to go, easier-maybe, but it doesn't taste NEARLY as good!! Not to mention we are making great memories and improving our domestic skills--not many woman these days cook anymore, let alone can. We enjoy both!!
Jess was in charge of peeling and slicing the apples since it was a sitting job! Thank goodness for the pampered chef apple peeler, corer, slicer--saves SO much time!!!
And the result is these beauties!!
Cooking away!
Messy kitchen---but the final result is so worth the mess!
Yummy applesauce
The big jars are applesauce (3 more aren't pictured) and the little jars are apple butter (1 not pictured). Jessica also made a batch of apple pie filling and I am making muffins and cakes with the leftover apples today! Not to mention all the stuff you can make with the homemade applesauce and apple butter, YUM! I LOVE fall!
